Macau Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai chaired on Monday the third meeting of the leading group on the construction of the Guangdong–Macau Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, reviewing progress on key initiatives and calling for stronger coordination and faster project delivery.
Sam said the group had held three meetings since its establishment, taking decisions to strengthen support for the zone’s development in policy, legislation, personnel deployment and resource allocation. He said these measures had laid a stronger institutional foundation for Hengqin’s long-term development.
He said leadership changes to the Administrative Committee and the Executive Committee of the Cooperation Zone were made last month, and that both bodies would continue to play a central coordinating role in promoting deeper integration and high-quality development.
Looking ahead, he said priorities would include scientific and technological innovation, industrial upgrading, improving convenience for Macau residents living or working in Hengqin, and facilitating more efficient cross-border movement of people and goods between Macau and Hengqin.
Sam said a comprehensive package of policy measures would be implemented more effectively to inject new momentum into the zone’s overall development and help it achieve new breakthroughs.
He instructed relevant MSAR government departments to conduct a comprehensive review of upcoming Hengqin-related tasks, advance key projects in a systematic manner and continue deploying their most capable civil servants to support the zone’s development
